We are very proud of our track record for creating opportunities for Post 16 students. The Career Academy programme, which aims to provide Year 12 students with inspirational opportunities to work with leaders from business and industry, is one such example.
Students apply and are interviewed for a place on the programme. Successful students are partnered with a mentor from the business world, who guides and coaches them throughout the two year programme. The mentor can help students prepare a CV, or participate in a mock interview. They also enable our students to discover how professionals conduct themselves, and how they have progressed in their careers. ‘Guru’ lectures are an integral part of the programme, alongside ‘behind the scenes’ visits to Coventry and Warwickshire BBC headquarters, DHL and Coventry Building Society.
The business mentor supports their student in finding a summer internship within a business context. Often the summer internships provide a very useful stepping stone to employment, or sponsorship onto Degree courses.
All students who have successfully completed their summer internships, graduate from the programme in true style, with graduation ceremonies in London, and locally at St Mary’s Guildhall in Coventry. Friends and family are invited and the Lord Mayor attends. A truly memorable occasion!
We would be unable to run such a successful programme without true partnership and support from several key businesses, and we are grateful for the continued support offered to us by Coventry Building Society, DHL, Peugeot, Coventry LA and Price Waterhouse Cooper, to name but a few.
